he increased willingness of (renal / pharmaceutical) companies to co-operate and sponsor organisations representing Chronic Kidney Patients and their carers has made it increasingly important for CEAPIR to develop a guideline on how to deal in a partnership with these companies.

The following guideline is an attempt to create a good foundation for the relationship between the European Kidney Patients’ Federation (CEAPIR) and (renal / pharmaceutical) industry.

CEAPIR Policy document sponsors

"The European Kidney Patients' Federation (CEAPIR) has a working relationship with many pharmaceutical companies and renal industries including medical device companies, and this works to great advantage. The nature of the support that these industry partners may give can vary, but it usually comprises of an annual donation (known as a sustaining grant), or a one off donation, to assist with the costs of our administration core activities, office and staffing. In addition CEAPIR may accept assistance or sponsorship, either practical or financial with a particular project to assist kidney patients. CEAPIR prefers to establish relationships of a continuous nature with industry partners, and likes to develop a close working partnership with them. It is of prime importance to CEAPIR that its commercial neutrality is scrupulously preserved so that the interests of one company over another are not advanced by CEAPIR, or the interests of an industry partner are not put before the interests of kidney patients or carers. The independence of CEAPIR is one of its most important assets, and is one reason why Governments may listen to CEAPIR over and above commercial bodies. This independence will never be sacrificed in return for financial support. All monies raised from Industry Partners must be paid into the CEAPIR bank account and are fully itemised in the federations audited accounts."
